Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid glowing tribute to Mrs. Esther Ahon on the occasion of her 100th birthday, describing her as a rare embodiment of calmness, kindness, discipline, and exemplary motherhood.

Represented by the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, the governor spoke during a thanksgiving service held on Saturday at Bishop Agori-Iwe Memorial Anglican Church, Ovwodavwaren, Ughelli.

He noted that the centenarian’s life marked by dignity, humility, and moral uprightness stands as a powerful source of inspiration to both present and future generations.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that Mrs. Ahon, mother of his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, was being honoured not merely for reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years, but for the enduring values she represents.

These include her unwavering commitment to family, her success in raising responsible children, and her positive contributions to her community.

He reaffirmed his administration’s respect for senior citizens, stressing its commitment to preserving their dignity and improving their welfare.

Reflecting on the deeper meaning of honour, the governor remarked that beyond political titles, the most revered recognition remains “Okpakorere”, a sacred status of community elder bestowed by divine grace rather than personal ambition.

In his sermon, Venerable Oghomena Diakeleho-Edjere described the celebrant as a devout and God-fearing woman whose dedication to the church has been steadfast and exemplary.

He praised her punctuality, consistency, and active involvement in church life, portraying her as a “living legend” who chose to be celebrated in her lifetime.

The cleric offered prayers for continued strength and grace upon the centenarian, urging others to emulate her life of faith, service, and devotion.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Moses Ahon expressed profound gratitude to God for the rare and historic milestone, noting that Mrs. Ahon is the first in the family to attain the age of 100.

He described the occasion as a moment of immense pride and shared joy for the Ahon family and the wider community.

He also appreciated the presence of dignitaries, well-wishers, top government officials, traditional rulers, and business leaders who graced the celebration.

The centenary event featured a solemn thanksgiving service, heartfelt prayers, and tributes celebrating a life widely regarded as impactful and worthy of emulation.

It culminated in a colourful reception where the centenarian, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and guests, ceremonially cut her birthday cake in a joyful conclusion to the historic celebration.
