Aggrieved commercial motorcycle operators commonly known as ‘Okada Riders’ in Abuja have protested against the impounding of their motorcycles on August 08, 2022, by task force.

The task force of the Federal Capital Territory Administration had on Monday morning stormed the Goza area along the Airport road, Abuja, and clamped down on the motorcyclists.

Africa Investigative Magazine learned that the riders barricaded the road in protest which caused terrible traffic.

It was further learned that security operatives comprising the Police, Nigerian Security, and Civil Defence Corps were deployed for the operation.

One of the road users who spoke with our correspondent but preferred anonymity explained that the task force of the Federal Capital Territory was at the area confiscating the motorcycles of those operating at the expressway.

“They have been warned to stop using the highway. But they still do, which was why the task force came. But they angrily blocked the road afterward.”

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adah, confirmed the incident, saying that the command had deployed officers to the area, adding that she had not been fully briefed on the matter.

In the same development, the image maker for the Director of Road Traffic Services, Kalu Emetu, noted that the protest of commercial motorcyclists whose vehicles were impounded caused the traffic on the road.

“The task force went there to impound some of them. They organized themselves in protest, blocking the road. We have barricaded some areas to demarcate where they should go and not, but they still cross the barricade to enter the expressway. ”
