Delta Central Senatorial aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. (Olorogun) Alexander O. Akpodiete, has formally petitioned the party’s Appeals Committee over the conduct of the recently concluded Delta Central Senatorial Primary Election, expressing confidence in the party’s internal mechanisms to deliver justice and fairness.
The petition, which was received by the NDC Appeals Committee in Abuja, seeks a review of issues arising from the primary election held last Friday, in which Akpodiete participated alongside other aspirants vying for the party’s Delta Central senatorial ticket.
Speaking on his decision to challenge the outcome through the party’s established channels, Akpodiete said it reflected his commitment to democratic values and institutional processes within the NDC.
“As a loyal and dedicated member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, I have utilized the internal mechanisms provided by our party to respectfully raise concerns regarding the conduct of the primary election,” he stated.
“It is my belief that our great and rapidly growing party will do the right thing and ensure that due process, fairness, transparency and internal democracy prevail.”
According to him, the petition was filed in good faith and underscores the importance of maintaining confidence in the party’s structures and electoral processes.
Akpodiete noted that fairness in party primaries would strengthen unity among members and improve the NDC’s preparedness for future electoral contests, adding that the credibility of internal elections remains critical to the growth of democratic institutions and public trust in political organisations.
He further stressed that transparent and accountable processes are essential for any political party seeking to position itself as a credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
While awaiting the outcome of the appeals process, the senatorial aspirant appealed to his supporters and stakeholders across Delta Central Senatorial District to remain peaceful and patient.
“I urge all my supporters and well-wishers across Delta Central to remain calm, law-abiding and patient. We must allow the party’s internal processes to run their course without unnecessary tension or division,” he said.
“Our party is bigger than any individual and, as such, we must conduct ourselves with dignity, maturity and respect for one another, regardless of our differing views.”
Akpodiete also expressed concern over the circulation of unofficial election results, urging party members and supporters to rely solely on information released through recognised party channels.
“I respectfully urge all party members, supporters and aspirants to refrain from publishing, circulating or relying upon unofficial results. The only results that should be recognised are those officially released by the Nigeria Democratic Congress through its authorised structures,” he added.
Reaffirming his confidence in the party, he said the NDC was founded on the principles of justice, accountability, transparency and service to the people, expressing optimism that those values would guide the handling of the matter.
Beyond politics, Akpodiete is known for his contributions to legal scholarship, technology governance and digital innovation. He is the founder of Atawa AI, Atawa Technologies LLC, Atawa Group and Atawa Training Institute, and has provided advisory and training services to government agencies, universities and organisations across Nigeria, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and other countries.
