Court Remands Maduku Children, In-laws Over Allegations Against Agofure

Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State Capital, has on September 28, 2023, remanded Late Chief Abel Maduku’s children and in-laws at Ogwash-Uku prisons over false allegations against Chief Godwin O. Agofure.
The presiding judge, Justice F. A. Olubanjo directed that the Defendants be remanded following different charges brought against them. The charges include Cybercrime, defamation of character, among others.
Maduku’s children were remanded in case with suit No. FHC/ASB/IIOC/23 between Inspector General of Police referred to as Complainant. The nine children were; John Abel Maduku ‘M’, Philip Maduku ‘M’, Ogheneyore Tete ‘F’, Prince Maduku ‘M’, Helen Tete ‘F’, Blessing John ‘F’, Stanley Okiemute ‘M’, Stella Dele ‘F’ and Resident Victor ‘M’.
According to the plaintiff, the false allegations, disseminated via whatsapp, facebook and other social media outlets without substantial evidence had brought the reputation of Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure to disrepute.
The defendants had taken to different social media accounts, accusing Agufure of executing several crimes, thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 24(1) (b) and punishable under Section 24 of the Cyber-Crime Act, 2015.
Late Monday George Asovunure, on the instructions of one of the defendants, Mr. Philip Maduku, was also buried at the fence of the country home of Olorogun Godwin O. Agofure.
The case was, however, adjourned till October 24, 2023, for further hearing.
