FG to demolish illegal structures on Ondo highways

The Federal Government has mandated the owners of illegal structures along Federal roads in Ondo State to move them away.

The Federal Controller of Works at the Ministry of Works and Housing Mr Olajide Olubakinro, warned that failure to obey the Federal Government’s directives will lead to demolition of such properties.

Olajide Olubakinro stated this during the sensitization programme by Government Officials in some parks and markets along federal highways in Ondo State on Wednesday.

Mr. Olubakinro scolded the spate of construction of illegal structures along the highways, stressing that it was against the road regulations and could lead to road accident.

He stated that the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Raji Fashola, had directed that the sensitization programme must be held to educate people on the dangers in parking or building illegal structures close to the highway.

His words, “We are here to sensitize our people on the danger in encroaching the Federal Highways. From the centre of the road to the road shoulder it is 150 feet, yet people have encroached the road corridor.”

“When next we are coming back, we will come with law enforcement agents to demolish the illegal structures along the road.”
