Gov Okowa Nominates Replacement For Late DESOPADEC Board Member Weeks After CONPA Appeal

Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa has nominated Hon Azaka Ossai for appointment as a Board member, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission.

Azaka’s nomination came slightly four weeks after the Coalition of Ndokwa Peace Ambassadors (CONPA) appealled to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to consider a replacement for Late Hon Christian Ikechukwu Akozor as he did to the Ethiope West on the passage of Joyce Overal in 2020.

Governor Okowa made the nomination on Tuesday March 29, 2022, as he sought approval for N20 Billion facility from Fidelity Bank PLC which he claimed would be used to finance Delta State Government Investment of 5% Equity in UTM Offshore Limited’s Floating Liquidefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Project.

Recall that CONPA under leadership of Amb Alex Chukwuka Uboh, has in a statement made available to Africa Investigative Magazine on the February 24, 2022 appealed to Delta State Government to consider a replacement for Late Hon Ikechukwu Akozor on the DESOPADEC Board.

Until death, Hon  Akozor was a commissioner representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC Board.

He died on September 02, 2022 at a hospital in Asaba after a brief illness.

Other subjects treated by the Delta State House of Assembly were considering of a Bill to Repeal the Passengers Welfare Scheme Law, 2022.

“Passage of Delta State Waterways Tax, Control and Licensing of Boats (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2022.”
