Yet-to-be identified gunmen have at the early hours of Saturday attacked a police station in Imo State, killing two police officers.
The culprits who allegedly set the Umuguma police divisional headquarters in Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State ablaze, were armed with sophisticated weapons.

It was learned that the hoodlums stormed the Police Station around 4:30 in the morning and started shooting sporadically before setting the station ablaze.
It was not clear if the gunmen used improvised explosive device as the Police Building went up in flame a few minutes after their arrival.

Our correspondent who visited the scene but was not allowed to take a photograph of the building said police properties were destroyed.
Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the unknown gunmen blocked all the entrances to the Police including that of the Local Government Council was blocked before they carried out the attack.

An eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent but preferred anonymity disclosed that sound of gunshots and stray bullets made people take refuge in the bush.
He alleged that the attackers laid ambush to attack other victims who escaped from the fire ravaging the station.

According to him, the officers who met their sudden end were one Ifeanyi, a student of Imo State University, and Iyke who hailed from Avu community.
When contacted, the Imo State Police spokesman, Abattam Michael confirmed the incident but said no soul was lost at the early morning attack on the Umuguma police headquarters
Fire fighters were later seen at the scene.
