How Nigerian Minister Of Justice And Attorney General Allegedly Received Funds From Illegal Sale Of Crude Without Remittance

The House of Representatives, on April 11, 2023, alleged that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, received funds for sale of 48 million barrels of crude oil in a China deal without remitting same to the federation account.

Chairman of the ad hoc committee investigating the missing of over $2.4 billion in revenue from the illegal sale of 48million barrels of crude oil export in 2015 and all crude oil exports.

Mark Gbillah, who disclosed this while addressing invitees at a public hearing of the panel, said the Chamber is also investigating the sales by Nigeria from 2014 till date.

Gbillah explained that the public hearing became paramount after it received a  tip-off from a whistle-blower.

He lamented that Malami and some government officials who were invited to the public hearing absconded the meering.

The committee, however, summoned the defaulting officials to appear at a later date to defend themselves on the issue of crude oil sales and the loss of over $2.4 billion in revenue.

Apart from Malami, others summoned were the Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, NEITI, oil and gas companies who engaged in export, and Oriental Energy Limited.

Oriental Energy was given a week within which to provide all necessary details regarding its involvement in crude oil lifting and sales within the period under review.
