Six Varsity Students Released After Paying N5 Million Ransom

Afimag.com –

Six students, abducted in the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State, have been released on October 18, 2023, after their parents have allegedly paid N5 million ransom to the kidnappers.

According to Radio Nigeria, this is the seventh time students of the Federal University of Lafia have been abducted. The most recent incident occurred three weeks ago before this present case.

A victim, speaking anonymously, informed Radio Nigeria that kidnappers originally targeted a man in the neighbouring village of Gandu but ended up abducting nearby students when they missed their intended target.

The victim alleged that the abductors assaulted and sexually molested them and threatened to murder them if their parents reported the incident to the police.

The victim added that the other five victims have reunited with their families.

When Radio Nigeria inquired about the university’s awareness, the victim confirmed that the institution’s Chief Security Officer was informed.

A relative of the victim said she would be taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramsel Nansel, the police public relations officer for the Nasarawa State police command, claimed to have no knowledge of the incident.

Attempts to reach the university’s public relations officer were unsuccessful when this report was filed.
