By Odili Ogochukwu

The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Barr. Jaro Movudu Egbo, has highlighted key achievements of his administration as he marked two years in office, citing significant progress in infrastructure, healthcare, security, power supply and internally generated revenue.

Speaking during a media briefing to commemorate the second anniversary of his administration, Egbo expressed gratitude to the people of Ughelli North for entrusting his administration with the responsibility of governance.

He said that despite the economic and governance challenges facing the country, his administration had remained focused on delivering meaningful development and improving the lives of residents.

According to him, the successes recorded over the past two years were made possible through the support of the people, cooperation of stakeholders and the leadership of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose MORE Agenda has continued to provide direction for grassroots development.

On infrastructural development, Egbo said his administration had embarked on several landmark projects, including the construction of an ultra-modern Ughelli North Local Government Secretariat designed to provide a conducive working environment for staff and visitors.

He disclosed that the new secretariat complex also includes improved security infrastructure and enhanced aesthetics.

The chairman added that the legislative chamber had been rehabilitated and fully furnished with modern office facilities and an independent power supply to create a better environment for legislative activities.

He also highlighted the construction of modern multi-storey shopping complexes aimed at boosting commerce and providing decent trading spaces for traders and entrepreneurs.

According to him, the council also completed a functional court complex to strengthen access to justice and improve judicial service delivery.

Egbo further announced the rehabilitation of the long-neglected Post Office Road in front of High Court II, noting that the project includes reinforced concrete pavement, asphalt overlay and comprehensive drainage infrastructure to permanently address flooding in the area.

On healthcare, the chairman said the administration had completed the the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital and equipped it with modern medical facilities.

He added that residential quarters for doctors and nurses were currently under construction to ensure improved healthcare delivery across the local government.

Meanwhile, on power and energy, Egbo stated that his administration had improved electricity supply through the procurement and installation of transformers in strategic communities, while also restoring electricity to several areas through upgraded electrical infrastructure.

He noted that the council had also embraced renewable energy by installing hybrid solar power systems, including solar panels and high-capacity solar streetlights, to provide reliable public lighting while reducing dependence on conventional electricity.

The chairman identified security as one of the administration’s major achievements, recalling that major routes leading into Ughelli North were once notorious for armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

He said the council collaborated with security agencies to clear criminal hideouts along the Ughelli–Warri corridor and other flashpoints, significantly reducing incidents of kidnapping and robbery.

To strengthen security operations, Egbo disclosed that the council donated a fully equipped operational patrol vehicle to the Nigeria Police Force and renovated police facilities to improve their operational effectiveness.

He added that accommodation was also provided for personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies operating within the local government.

On revenue, Egbo also said the administration had strengthened internally generated revenue through prudent management and strategic investments, enabling the council to execute several development projects without compromising service delivery.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and sustaining policies that would improve the welfare of residents.

“We remain committed to building a more prosperous, secure and developed Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The journey continues, and with the support of our people, we will accomplish even more in the years ahead,” the chairman said.

Other areas that have recorded significant attention during Egbo’s two years in office included educational sector, restoration of environmental cleanliness and improvement of staff welfare.
