Donald Trump, the US President-elect, has paid tribute to Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
Trump took to social media to express his condolences, stating that Americans owe Carter “a debt of gratitude” for his service to the nation.
Trump acknowledged that Carter faced significant challenges during his presidency, which came at a pivotal time for the country.
Despite their philosophical and political differences, Trump praised Carter’s commitment to making America a better place, saying he “truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for”.
Other former presidents, including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, have also paid tribute to Carter, highlighting his integrity, compassion, and dedication to public service.
President Joe Biden described Carter as “an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian”.
Carter’s legacy extends far beyond his presidency, with his humanitarian work earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. An official state funeral is expected to be held in Washington D.C. to honor his memory.
