20-Year-Old Man Jailed For Destroying Campaign Billboard In Plateau

A 20-year-old man, Gabriel Orupou has bagged two years jail term with an option of a fine of N100,000 for demolishing a campaign billboard.

The Area Court in Bukuru, in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State found him guilty as charged on December 19, 2022.

The campaign billboard destroyed by the convict wears on campaign messages of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

Gabriel was brought to court for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy and mischief contrary to sections 59 and 313 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

Orupou was charged alongside three others who are at large. He was sentenced on Monday December 19, 2022, but convicted on Friday December 17, 2022, by the Court after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

While pleading for mercy, Orupou said he was paid N2,000 by the three others on the run – Musa, Bash and Danlami to perform the act.
