The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ughelli Area Command, has joined its counterparts nationwide in commemorating the 41st anniversary of the organization with robust security meeting.

The event tagged, “War Against Cultism, Drug Abuse, Kidnapping and Other Vices: The Roles and Responsibilities of Parents, Community Leaders, Government, Security Agencies, and Religious Leaders,” was held recently at the Afiesere Community Hall, Ughelli, Delta State.

The Chairman of the occasion, Olorogun Theophilus James Okpidi, PhD, commended the PCRC Ughelli Area Command for organizing such a sensitive meeting to tackle the security challenges in the state.

Okpidi, a retired university professor, and UN Peace Ambassador expressed satisfaction over the theme of the program, describing it as “timely and relevant”, given the rising threat of cultism, drug abuse, and kidnapping in Delta State, particularly in Ughelli.

He emphasized that the battle against these social vices requires a collective effort and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the townhall meeting to their daily lives.

Dr. Okpidi also encouraged the PCRC not to relent in its advocacy for peace and security, stressing that their efforts are being noticed and appreciated across the state.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of PCRC Ughelli Area Command, Amb. (P) Comr. Omarayerue Blessing Egbagbara JP, traced the origins of PCRC to the visionary leadership of the late Mr. Etim Inyang, one of Nigeria’s earliest Indigenous Inspectors General of Police, highlighting PCRC’s role in pioneering community policing and building bridges between the police and the public.

Amb. Egbagbara emphasized the urgent need to tackle cultism, drug abuse, and kidnapping through strategic engagement with youths, communities, and security operatives.

He called for more government and private sector support to sustain the PCRC’s advocacy-driven approach to fighting crime.

Key resource persons who delivered insightful presentations included Prof. James Okoro (Rector, Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu), W/SP Yenesom Dick (PCRC Secretary and OC JWC, Ughelli Area Command), CSN Paulash Okoh (NDLEA Ughelli Area Command), and Chief Uku Amajatoja David JP. Their presentations focused on the root causes of social vices and practical measures for community-based solutions.

Other notable dignitaries in attendance included ACP Adebayo Ademola, Area Commander, Ughelli Area Command (represented by Supol Kadiri Momodu), CSP Patrick, DPO, Ofuoma Division and SP Matthew Asakpa, Administrative Officer, ZIB Zone 16, Yenagoa.
