I DON’T WANT TO BE GOVERNOR OF ANIOMA STATE – NED NWOKO
The Senator representing Delta North senatorial district at the National Assembly, Ned Munir Nwoko, has said that he is not seeking the creation of Anioma state,to assume the position of governor when the state becomes a reality.
Senator Nwoko, sponsor of Anioma state creation bill, before the red chambers, spoke July 15, 2024, while addressing Ndokwa leaders, youths and women at the Asaba residence of PDP one of the leaders, Chief Godswill Obieluem.
The Federal lawmaker explained that his eyes were firmly on the creation of Anioma state and nothing more, adding that the question of which geographical zone Anioma would belong to, revolved in widespread public affirmation, guided by democratic norms.
He stated that Anioma having lingered for 50 years as Nigeria’s oldest agitation on state creation, must be consummated now for equity.
The Senator emphasised the resolve of the present government to create a state and noted that Anioma stood a golden chance.
“ I want Anioma.Yes. But I am not aspiring to be Governor of Anioma.My focus is to witness the birth of Anioma.From my interactions among our people, we want Anioma.
“Anioma state would come with exciting opportunities. A full-fledged government with offices,elective positions and political appointments.There would be development of social infrastructure,coming closer to our doorsteps.
“We must all support creation of Anioma state.Our forebears championed Anioma.We have a collective duty to make Anioma come through this time,” he said.
Senator Nwoko also briefed the meeting on his stewardship and said he has ensured adequate government attention on Okpai electricity, Oko road and Ogwashi Uku dam as projects dear to him.
The Senator said more amenities for Delta North would be embedded in subsequent budgets,for implementation.
Thanking the people of Delta North for their support,Nwoko assured that he would continue to stand as a responsive ambassador.
He later signed a condolence register in honour of Chief Obieluem’s mother who departed few weeks ago.
