The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Lucky Oyiboka, following a raid on a suspected drug distribution hideout at Owa-Abbi in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, August 8, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following what the police described as credible and actionable intelligence.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives recovered 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp during a search of the premises.
The police said preliminary investigation indicated that Oyiboka was allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, adding that further investigation had commenced to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other persons connected to the operation.
The suspect, who remains in police custody, is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation, the statement said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs across the state.
Oyeniyi also urged members of the public to continue providing the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing and combating crime, assuring that the identities of informants would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The latest operation, the Command said, was part of efforts aligned with the crime-fighting initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening security operations and tackling criminal activities across the country.
