Afimag.com –
Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has declared a state of emergency on phone snatching, thuggery, and other criminal activities in the state.
The Assembly declared the emergency on June 19, 2023, following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini representing Dala constituency, during plenary that was presided by the Speaker Alhaji Isma’il Jibrin Falgore.
Hussaini claimed that some villains engaged in thuggery, phone snatching, shop lifting, drug abuse and other unlawful acts, disturbing the peaceful atmosphere within the metropolitan local government areas.
In separate contributions, members representing Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado, Ungoggo, Dambatta, Garko, Takai and Kabo explained that if care was not taken, the security situation would escalate as gangs were terrorising Kano residents.
They called on the state security council, security agencies and relevant stakeholders to review the situation holistically and come up with modalities to address the menace.
After careful deliberations, the House adopted the motion and urged the State Government to do everything possible to fish out the perpetrators and bringing them to book.
In another development, member representing Takai Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako submitted a letter seeking for approval to present a private bill titled Kano State Health Security Bill 2023.
