Nyame was the governor of Taraba State from 1999 to 2007.

It could be recalled that in February 2020, the Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld the conviction and 12-year jail term given to Nyame, for misappropriation of funds while he was governor of Taraba State.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mary Odili, said it found no reason to set aside concurrent judgments of both the trial court and the Court of Appeal, which found Mr. Nyame guilty as charged.

Justice Amina Augie, in his judgment, maintained that the appeal filed by the former governor to set aside the judgment of the lower court lacked merit.

The apex court, however, only explained that the appellate court was wrong by imposing a fine on Nyame.

Justice Augie, therefore, affirmed the imposed jail term but void Mr Nyame from paying a fine since he committed the crime against his state during his tenure as a governor.
