The Delta Central Senatorial District aspirant on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Prof. Alexander Akpodiete, has paid an unscheduled condolence visit to the family of the late Oghenemine Ogidi, where he renewed his call for justice over the circumstances surrounding the deceased’s death.
Akpodiete, who was received by the deceased elder brother, Victory Ogidi on behalf of the bereaved family, described the late Ogidi as a promising young man whose death had continued to generate concern among residents and sympathisers.
The senatorial hopeful said the visit was not only to sympathise with the family but also to assure them that the demand for justice would not be abandoned.
He said, “I came here today as a brother, a father and a concerned citizen to identify with this family in their moment of grief.
“The death of Oghenemine Ogidi is painful and unfortunate, and we cannot pretend that all is well when it is not well.
According to him, “Every life matters and I urged relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
“Justice delayed is justice denied, the family, Nigerians and Urhobo Nation deserve to know the truth, and build a society where the lives of our young generations are protected and valued.”
The professor also appealed to youths in the area to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of investigations.
“We must not allow anger to lead to violence. I urge the youths to remain peaceful and continue to pursue justice through lawful means. Violence will not bring back the deceased,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Victory Ogidi appreciated Akpodiete for the visit and for standing with them during the difficult period.
“This visit had given us another hope that our cries for justice were being heard by well-meaning Nigerians.” He said.
Prof Alexander Akpodiete was accompanied on the visit by NDC women leader of Ughelli North Ward 2/6, Mrs Emonena Owhe, Mrs Franca, among other party faithful.
