DSPG Embarks On One Week Mid Semester Break Over Insecurity Cases In Ogwashi Uku

The Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South Local Government Area, on February 17, 2024, proceeded to one week mid semester break over the rising cases of insecurity in the host community.

The Institution management has also announced that academic activities will resume on campuses on February 26, 2024.

The one week break became imperative as the students resident in the hostels in Ogwashi-Uku and Azagba Ogwashi are confronted with various magnitude of insecurity issues ranging from robbery attack to other forms of vices.

The school management, as apart of effort to curb the excesses, has directed that the students embark on one week break to enable it draw out solutions to the ugly situation.

A statement signed by the leadership of Student Union Government, SUG, Comr. Victor Anthony and Comr. Onugege Graham, the SUG President and General Secretary respectively, said the management has declared a one week mid-semester break following the recent cases of robberies and insecurity around Ogwashi-Uku and Azagba Ogwashi areas.

According to the student body, the school management, SUG, community leaders, and security agencies, within the period of break would work out modalities in checking the inglorious situation for the benefit of students.

It said, “Within this one week break, the school management, SUG, the community and security agencies are to monitor and take appropriate security measures that will curb the high level of insecurity now common in student hostels in Ogwashi-Uku in order to ensure the safety of students.”

While saying that the students who are not traveling to remain calm, the SUG cautioned her subordinates against all forms of night journeys and movements, urging the students to be security conscious and restrict their night movements.

“The SUG will, within the weekend visit hostels located in robbery-prone areas of Ogwashi-Uku for profiling and creation of platform for effective communication and information management,” it added.
