FCT: Panel Inaugurated To Check Cross-Border Crimes, Banditry, Others

Afimag.com –

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T), Abuja, Barr. Nyesom Wike has set up two joint task forces formulated with all security agencies in the territory to tackle cross-border banditry and ‘one chance’ excesses.

Commissioner of Police, F.C.T Command, Haruna Garba disclosed this yesterday in Abuja after a Security Council meeting presided over by the former Rivers State governor.

It was gathered that ‘one-chance robbers’ in drivers’ disguise, picked up passengers and robbed them, sometimes, killed their victims in the process.

Speaking to newsmen, Garba who was flanked by the FCT Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu as well as other defence and intelligence chiefs, said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss modalities on how to eliminate bad eggs in FCT.

He said, “Consequently, it was resolved to set up a joint taskforce of all security agencies on the menace of one-chance. “Also, a joint taskforce on cross border crimes to tackle the issue of armed robbers, kidnappers and all forms of crimes in the FCT will be set up.

According to him, “These two security operations have commenced in earnest. “We wish to assure residents of our resolve to curb all forms of criminalities in the territory.”

On why security operatives have always raided mechanic workshops, Garba revealed that it was based on intelligence, noting that the majority of people allegedly traveled down to Abuja to perpetrate evil.

“FCT is the heart of the country, with a lot of people coming in and who have no businesses here. They end up staying under bridges and even in some mechanic workshops.

“What we are doing is to raid and remove the chaff from the grains so that residents can sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said
