Former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife have reportedly been abducted by gunmen in Katsina State.
The incident was disclosed on Saturday by former Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District, through a post on his verified Facebook page.
According to Ojudu, the information was relayed to him by retired Brigadier General Sagir Musa, who stated that the retired military officer and his wife were kidnapped while travelling to Katsina town.
The abduction reportedly occurred along the Matazu Local Government Area axis of Katsina State.
In the message shared by Ojudu, the retired general’s driver escaped from the scene with gunshot injuries.
“Maj Gen R. Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, was kidnapped together with his wife on his way to Katsina today. He was kidnapped along Matazu LGA of Katsina State. His driver escaped with gunshot injury. The senior officer’s Peugeot 504, red in colour, is parked at Matazu Division of the Nigeria Police Force,” the message read.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Defence Headquarters nor security authorities in Katsina State had officially confirmed the incident.
Major General Abubakar served as Director of Defence Information, the public affairs arm of the Defence Headquarters, from 2015 to 2017.
The reported abduction comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where cases of banditry and kidnapping for ransom continue to pose serious concerns despite intensified security operations.
