Governor Nyesom Wike reacts to the attack on his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom on Saturday

The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has said that Nigeria will be buried if the governor of Benue State, Mr. Samuel Ortom is assassinated.

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen attacked Governor Ortom on his way to a farm in Makurdi, at the early hours of Saturday but was repelled by security operatives.

Gov. Samuel Ortom while narrating his ordeal said, “I ran for more than one and a half kilometres without stopping to escape the assault.”

Reacting to the incident, the governor of Rivers State Mr. Nyesom Wike said, “If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria.”

“If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the Federal Government will be held responsible and they should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria,” he further stated.

According to the statement signed by his Media Director, Mr. Kelvin Ebiri, Nyesom Wike recalled that the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Major General Jamil Sarham, and All Progressives Congress chieftains had concluded plans to assassinate him during the 2019 general election.

He lamented that the rate at which the lives of incumbent governors are threatened is disturbing.
