The Director General of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria, Rear Admiral Thaddeus Udofia (Rtd.), has commended the transformational strides and massive infrastructure development recorded at Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor, ProfessorChristopher Ogbogbo.
Rear Admiral Udofia described the ongoing transformation at the university as massive, remarkable and highly commendable.
He made the remarks during an official collaboration and partnership visit to the university in Ibusa, Delta State.
According to him, the developmental strides recorded under Professor Ogbogbo were remarkable, particularly considering that the Vice Chancellor had achieved significant transformation within one year and a few months in office.
Rear Admiral Udofia described Professor Ogbogbo as an agent of development with much to offer the university.
He also commended the management team for its support and cooperation with the Vice Chancellor, noting that the infrastructure development at the institution was made possible through the collective efforts of the management.
He said the visit was aimed at identifying areas of collaboration and partnership between the two institutions.
According to him, both institutions had concluded plans to work together to move ADUN to greater heights.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of ADUN, Professor Christopher Ogbogbo, commended the Director General and his team for the visit.
He described the partnership as timely, particularly in addressing the university’s capacity-building needs in the blue economy.
Professor Ogbogbo said the collaboration would further strengthen ADUN’s development as a centre of academic excellence in the blue economy.
Ogbogbo, who explained the university would benefit from practical knowledge, research opportunities and manpower development, added that manpower support could include the engagement of adjunct and visiting scholars and lecturers.
The Vice Chancellor also disclosed that Nautical Architecture students would visit the institute’s shipbuilding facilities in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
He said the visits would provide the students with valuable practical experience beyond classroom learning.
Professor Ogbogbo said his developmental drive was motivated by the desire to position ADUN on the global stage.
He said the vision was consistent with his goal of making the university globally competitive while retaining its local relevance.
