Nigerians React To Non-Inclusion Of Notable Players In The Super Eagles 2022 AFCON List, Call For Its Review

The non-inclusion of some notable players in the Super Eagles final list for the 2022 African Cup of Nation has triggered outrage as super eagles fans have called for the review of the list.

Fans have complained about the omission of Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu, and Paul Onauchu in the squad. Also not enlisted for the 2022 AFCON include Oghenekaro Etebo, Victor Ikpeasa, and Johnson Balogun.

It was learned that the aforementioned players were part of the squad that won bronze at the last football tournament hosted by Egypt.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that Paul Onauchu and Oghenekaro Etebo are on injuries while the whereabouts of Victor Ikpeasa and Johnson Balogun remain unknown.

  • It was further gathered that Nigerians were surprised over the inclusion of Ola Aina in Austin Eguavoen’s list and questioned his ability to deliver the Nation.

Nigerians have not spoken in one voice since the release of the 2022 AFCON list for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Reacting, the new interim super eagles technical manager, Austin Eguvoen said it was not easy arriving at the list.

He said the players are selected based on their performances in various areas of responsibility and would give Nigeria the expected results.

“It was tough arriving at the final list. I do not doubt that expectation of Nigerians is high. They want us to succeed. And, we should do everything possible not to disappoint anyone.

“We shall take every game seriously. I am a better coach now because everything I do counts, and I watch many coaches and learn from them. The Super Eagles of Nigeria will approach the games against opponents differently this time,” he said.

Nigeria will face Egypt in her opening game on January 11, 2022, followed by Sudan and Guinea Bissau.
