Rev Fr Christopher Odia Was Killed By His Abductors Out Of Frustration – Police

The Edo State Police Command has reacted to the death of Fr. Christopher Odia saying that the kidnapped catholic priest was killed by his abductors out of frustration.

Rev. Fr. Christopher Odia was the parish priest of St. Michael Catholic Church, lkhabigbo, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State.

He was abducted by criminal elements on June 25, 2022, at 6:30 a.m while coming out to go for Sunday Mass.

He was however, killed by the criminals following a drastic move by a formidable team of security operatives to rescue him.

According to the statement by the Edo State Police Command, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, said one of the suspected kidnappers of the Catholic Priest was killed during the rescue mission.

ASP Iwegbu noted that other members of the gang sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.

The statement reads, “Following the kidnap of the parish priest of St. Michael Catholic Church, lkhabigbo, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Rev. Fr. Christopher Odia, in his rectory while coming out to go for Sunday mass in the wee hours of June 25, 2022, a combined team of police tactical teams, Jattu divisional police operatives and the local vigilante team, led by the Divisional Police Officer, went into the forest with a view to rescuing the catholic priest.

“In frustration, the abductors killed Rev. Fr. Christopher Odia. A hunter, identified as Nurudeen, was also shot dead in the process, while police personnel who went on the trail of the kidnappers decimated one of them with other gang members escaping with various gunshot injuries.

“Intensive bush combing is ongoing towards ensuring that those who escaped are arrested and made to face justice,” it said.
