Six Armed Robbery, Kidnapped Suspects In Vigilante Disguise Arrested In Delta

Delta State Police Command have arrested six suspected armed robbers and kidnappers operating in Ekpan-Warri axis who disguised as vigilantes and hunters to actualize their criminal intentions.

The suspects were arrested on December 15, 2022, along Jakpa Road at 8:00pm prompt by the police officers attached to Ekpan Police Division who were deployed on patrol prior to series of robbery and kidnapped cases incidented at the division.

According to a Release made available to newsmen by the state command public relations officer, DSP Edafe Bright, the police, upon suspicion accosted a Toyota Sienna with six male occupants and subjected it to a thorough search which led to recovery of guns and other weapons.

Three of suspects who could not give account of themselves, matched the descriptions of individuals who had reported robbery and kidnapped cases at the Ekpan Police Station. The suspects will face the full weight of law.

The statement reads in full: “17th December, 2022. PRESS RELEASE! DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND ARREST SIX SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS/KIDNAPPERS WHO OPERATES AROUND EKPAN UNDER THE GUISE OF BEING VIGILANTES/HUNTERS,
RECOVERY OF THREE PUMP ACTION GUNS AND FOUR LOCALLY MADE GUNS

“On 15/12/2022 at about 2000hrs, Police operatives attached to Ekpan Police station deployed on patrol along Jakpa Road, intercepted a Toyota Sienna space bus, ash in colour without registration number conveying six male occupants.

“The Policemen on suspicion subjected them to a search during which three (03) pump action guns, four (04) locally made guns, one (01) long axe, seven (07) expended cartridges, nine (09) live cartridges, native charms, three (03) cutlasses, two (02) number plates were recovered.

“The suspects, Aaron Okorigwe ‘m’ aged 27yrs and five others could not give reasonable account of themselves, were taken into custody. Investigation later revealed that they were hoodlums who operates under the guise of being members of hunters group from Ovwian Aladja, but sneaks into Ekpan Community in a Sienna vehicle, rob and kidnap unsuspecting, after robbing them, they run to hibernate in Ovwian Aladja.

“Following these findings, on 16/12/2022, the DPO invited three victims (names withheld), all of whom were at various times victims of armed robberies, and kidnappings in the area, and placed the suspects on identification parade, the victims identified the suspects as the syndicate that robbed and kidnapped them. Investigation is ongoing.
