Southampton Vs Manchester United Highlights, Reactions As Mason Greenwood’s Goal Not Enough

Man United drew with Southampton on Sunday in their second Premier League match of the season.

Manchester United has been held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Southampton.

United was hoping to build on momentum after they destroyed Leeds United 5-1 on the opening weekend, but a disjointed and sloppy display saw them share the points on the South coast.

The Saints started the stronger side and then weathered a United storm of pressure before again taking control and they deservedly opened the scoring on the 30th minute.

United was aggrieved in the build-up as they believe Bruno Fernandes was fouled as he was dispossessed, but the ball eventually landed to Che Adams whose shot deflected off Fred and into the net, going down as an own-goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side came out firing after the break and equalized just 10 minutes later after Paul Pogba and Fernandes linked in the box to tee up Mason Greenwood, whose shot squirmed under Alex McCarthy.

Both sides then had their chance to win, with David De Gea making a big save to deny Adam Armstrong, but United was unable to snatch a late winner which would have sent the traveling support into delirium.

United’s biggest weakness was exposed again at Southampton
Twenty-seven and counting.

Nine times last term Manchester United conceded first only to win away from home in the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warned that the trend was unsustainable with crowds back and this was a truer gauge of where United is really at. Southampton, like last year, struck first and elicited the reaction Solskjaer would have desired at a ground United have still not lost at since 2003. The result was not as satisfying for Solskjaer as Edinson Cavani’s brace nine months ago.

“Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack,” the United supporters bellowed. United did little else in a second-half onslaught. Jadon Sancho came on with more than half an hour to go, Jesse Lingard emerged and the formation was tweaked. Southampton resisted.
