Suspected terrorists on Saturday night attacked communities in the Ikerin/Ajuba axis of Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several residents while others were reportedly injured or feared killed during the invasion.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the communities late at night and began shooting sporadically, causing panic among residents who fled their homes for safety.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said the exact number of victims had yet to be confirmed, as security agencies and community leaders were still assessing the situation.
Another source described the attack as chaotic, saying many families ran into nearby bushes after hearing heavy gunfire and cries for help.
Residents accused the gunmen of operating for a long period without immediate resistance, raising fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Kwara South.
Community leaders and residents have appealed to the government and security agencies to strengthen security presence in the affected areas and take urgent steps to protect lives and property.
The latest incident has further heightened fears in several rural communities in Kwara South, where cases of kidnapping and violent attacks have reportedly increased in recent months.
