A disturbing incident has unfolded in Ondo State, where an Anglican bishop, Rev. Canon Olowolagba, his wife, and children were abducted along Iboropa road in Akoko North-East council area, as the kidnappers demanded a staggering N75 million ransom for their release.
According to sources, the abductors have established communication with the victims’ family members and leaders of the Anglican Church.
Various associations have rallied together to raise funds to supplement the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
Rt. Rev. Babajide Bada, Bishop of Akoko Anglican Diocese, revealed that the family was traveling from Ipesi through Isua Akoko when they were abducted.
The clergyman’s daughter, a student at Adekunle Ajasin University, and a 9-year-old girl were among those abducted.
Initially, the kidnappers demanded N75 million, which was deemed unreasonable. After negotiations, they reduced the ransom to N10 million, only to later increase it to N15 million.
The bishop’s family and the church are working tirelessly to secure their release.
The matter has been reported to the state security outfit, Amotekun, which is collaborating with hunters and the police to rescue the victims.
Sheikh Basiru Aminu, chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Akoko North-West Local Government, has called for prayers and support for the victims’ safe release.
While the state police command claimed the incident was not reported to any police station, the state Amotekun commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the abduction and assured that efforts are underway to secure the victims’ release.
