Residents of Ukwu Nzu and Obomkpa communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State have raised concerns over the worsening condition of the road linking the two communities, calling on the Delta State Government to urgently intervene.
The communities appealed to the Delta State Government to conduct an immediate assessment of the damaged road and implement a permanent rehabilitation plan, warning that continued neglect could worsen the hardship faced by residents and pose serious threats to peace, safety, and development in the area.
The appeal, supported by lead activist, Young Nigerian Rights Organization Comr. Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, urged the state government to act swiftly in the interest of public welfare.
According to the appellants, the road has suffered extensive damage, causing severe hardship for residents who rely on it for daily movement, economic activities, and access to essential services.
They lamented that the deteriorating state of the road has heightened safety concerns and disrupted commercial and social life in both communities.
The communities alleged that the situation has also generated controversy involving Mosral Energy, the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), and the affected communities, with stakeholders disagreeing over the root cause of the damage.
Residents further alleged that Mosral Energy operates in partnership with the Delta State Government, and as such, they expect accountability and responsibility in addressing any environmental or infrastructural impact linked to the company’s activities within the area.
They lamented that while debates continue, no concrete steps have been taken to restore the road.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Hon. Emma Chinye, has visited the affected area following complaints from residents.
Despite the visit, the road has since been abandoned, with no visible rehabilitation work carried out.
