Scientific, Biblical Analyses Of The Rights And Wrongs Of Abortion

WHAT IS ABORTION?

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus. The National Center for Health Statistics, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO) see abortion as the termination of pregnancy prior to 20 weeks’ gestation or fetus born weighing less down 500 gram. Simply put, an abortion is when the pregnancy is ended so that it does not result in birth of a child.

TYPES OF ABORTION

The various forms of abortion are classified into the following:

  1. The Natural Abortion
  2. The Artificial Abortion

The natural abortion is also known as spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. It occurs when an embryo or fetus dies before fourth month (20 weeks) of pregnancy. Natural abortion is common and it happens in the first three months of pregnancy. Millions of women all over the globe are victims of natural abortion.

THE CAUSES OF SPONTANEOUS ABORTION

Ordinarily, miscarriage is caused by stress and consuming of most drugs. Presently, a lot of pregnant women have reported losing their pregnancies after taking some medications. Some of the causes of miscarriage are:

  1. Untreated severe infection
  2. Abnormalities in the uterus
  3. When the fertilized egg has an abnormal number of chromosomes or genes.
  4. If a woman has had more than two miscarriages in a row, she is likely to have another miscarriage.
  5. When a woman has virginal bleeding and mild cramps, but her cervix stays closed. After a few time, the bleeding stops and pregnancy goes on normally. The other half of threatened miscarriage become inevitable miscarriage, and might end in pregnancy loss.
  6. When a woman has no cramps or bleeding. But ultrasound shows an empty embryo without a heartbeat or empty pregnancy sac without an embryo, the tissue passes on its own. This is called Missed Miscarriage.

Miscarriage is dangerous if treated properly.

THE ARTIFICIAL ABORTION

This type of abortion is carried out by man. It could medical, trado-medical and so on. At this level, abortion is carried in two ways – Abortions Pills and Surgical Abortions. Abortion Pills involves the use of pills or drugs to terminate a pregnancy. Surgical Abortion involves the removal of the pregnancy or the contents of the uterus through the virginal by surgical means.

THE SCIENTIFIC OR WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO) POSITION ON ABORTION

The World Health Organization supports Abortion. Read this:

“Every individual has the right to decide freely and responsibly – without discrimination, coercion and violence – the number, spacing and timing of their children, and to have the information and means to do so, and the right to attain the highest standard of sexual and reproductive health.

Access to legal, safe and comprehensive abortion care, including post-abortion care, is essential for the attainment of the highest possible level of sexual and reproductive health. Three out of ten of all pregnancies end in induced abortion. Nearly half of all abortions are unsafe, and almost all of these unsafe abortions take place in developing countries.”

COUNTRIES THAT LEGALIZE ABORTION

Different countries have different perceptions on the concept of abortion, and have different reactions to it. Legal status of abortion considerably varies by region as almost every country permits it because of some circumstances.

According to Pew, only six countries in the world outlaw abortions under any circumstances. These countries are Chile, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Vatican City and Malta. Most industrialized countries allow the procedure without restrictions.

In 1920, the Soviet Union was the first country in the world to legalize all abortions. Abortion is however legal in all US states, and every state in the US has abortion clinic.

BIBLICAL SUBMISSION ON ABORTION

The Holy Bible has maintained that children are gift from Almighty God. A Christian who believes in the gospel of Christ will not terminate or truncate the gift of God. Psalm 127:3 buttresses that children are a heritage from the Lord … a reward from Him. Christians and biblical counselors must fight against the sins of abortion because human beings are made from the image of God.

In Luke 18:16, Jesus called the children to come to Him and said; let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to them. It is the same fruit in the womb that metamorphoses to children. Abortion may be legal in the universe but the Holy Bible condemns it.

The Scripture went further to state in Jeremiah 1:5 that before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart, I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. God has a plan for every child. Every seed the Creator planted in the womb of a woman has a role to play to the glory of His name and benefit to mankind. He says: I am your redeemer who formed you in the womb; I am the Lord the maker of all things who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself (Isaiah 44:24).

We must care for the fruits of the womb considering biblical practice, divine mandate or heavenly assignment God entrusted upon everyone on earth. Psalm 139:13 added that for you created my innermost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Terminating a pregnancy is equal to terminating the handiwork of God; wiping off a nation, a bloodline, an entire lineage, not just a family but prophets, men of God, doctors, lawyers, presidents, among others.

To crown it all, Proverb 1:16-17 provides the six things that the Lord hates, and seven that are detestable to Him: the haughty eyes, lying tongues, hands that shed innocent blood.
