Court Denies Okorocha’s Bail Bid

The federal high court sitting, Abuja has on May 27, 2022 denied the former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha bail.
Justice Inyang Ekwo refused Okorocha’s ex parte application seeking his released on bail pending the determination of a suit he filed against the Federal Government.
Recall that Senator Okorocha who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 25, 2022 for jumping bail.

In his bail application, the former governor stated that his presidential ambition under thee platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be endangered if his bail application is not given positive attention.
Justice Ekwo, however, objected to mandate the anti-graft agency to release him on bail but directed the applicant to put the Federal Government on notice to justify his continued detention.
The EFCC has filed a 17-count criminal charge against Okorocha before the same judge, with arraignment adjourned until May 30, 2022.
