EFCC Revealed The Main Reason Why Obiano Was Arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has revealed the main reason why it arrested the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Willie Obiano.

News on Obiano’s arrest was blaring as he became the first governor in Nigeria to be arrested on the day he handed over power.

It was not clear if he was about to run away from the country as the Anti-graft agency got him arrested at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and later moved him to Abuja.

Africa Investigative Magazine learned that his arrest may be connected to abuse of office ranging from misconduct to misuse of public fund.

Sources in the Anti-graft agency disclosed that the embattled former governor was being interrogated over financial misappropriation of N42 billion which belong to Anambra State.

The sources gave the break down to include misuse of N37 billion security vote and N5 billion Sure-P funds.

It was further learned that Governor Willie Obiano who served the state for eight years, used the said funds to sponsor his political party.

The commission’s head of media and publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said former governor Obiano was still in their custody, and could not tell when he would be released.

His words: “The former governor is currently in our custody undergoing interrogation and I cannot say exactly when he will be released.

“I don’t know how long the exercise will take. All I can tell you now is that he is still in the EFCC custody in Abuja,” he revealed.
