Major Reasons Why FG Cannot Evacuate Trapped Nigerians In Sudan

Afimag.com –

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said that it would be so difficult for Nigerian Government to evacuate Nigerians from war-ravaged Sudan.

The commission who said that even if the Nigerian Mission in the country and the National Emergency Management Agency have set every machinery in motion to rescue her citizens, revealed that no flight would access such a troubled zone.

NIDCOM made this disclosure in a statement signed by Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit (NIDCOM), on April 21, 2023, obtained by Africa Investigative Magazine.

Recall that the number of Nigerian students who are ready to come back to Nigeria from Sudan have increased to 1,700. Nonetheless, Nigerian Federal Government led by President Muhammed Buhari could not give a full scale of action as a result of the military aggression in Sudan.

The government has explained that the tense situation in Sudan made it difficult for Nigerian citizens to be evacuated from the country.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Mission in Sudan and the National Emergency Management Agency have put in place arrangements to evacuate Nigerian students and other Nigerian citizens stranded in Sudan.

“The tensed situation makes it gravely risky and impossible for any flights at this point in time. The aircrafts parked at the airport in the country were burnt.

“The humanitarian groups are seeking ways of getting food, water and medical supplies across to people.

“We appealed to the fighting parties to consider the Juba Peace Agreement enunciated by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development as a fundamental mechanism for the restoration of peace and tranquillity in the country.”
