Chelsea Agree Four-Year Deal With Xabi Alonso

Chelsea F.C. are set to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new head coach after agreeing terms on a four-year contract, according to reports.

The 44-year-old Spaniard is expected to be officially unveiled within the next 24 hours following successful discussions with Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, over the club’s transfer plans and managerial structure.

Alonso has been without a managerial role since leaving Real Madrid CF in January after a short spell in charge at the Santiago Bernabéu. Chelsea moved swiftly to make him their top target after parting ways with former manager Liam Rosenior last month.

The London club has been under the temporary guidance of Calum McFarlane in recent weeks while the search for a permanent manager continued. Other candidates reportedly considered by Chelsea included Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva.

Alonso, a former Liverpool F.C. midfielder, is expected to take charge ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur F.C. at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Chelsea are hoping Alonso’s arrival will help stabilise the club following a difficult campaign and provide long-term direction for the team.
