The Edo State chairman of the Police Community Relations committee (PCRC), Mrs. Atekha Odemwinge has been placed on indefinite suspension for wearing police uniform.
The Force also lamented over the abuse on the force’s reputation as a result of careless sales and uses of the police uniforms by non-police officers, individuals and groups.
Atskha’s suspension became necessary after her photograph wearing police uniform surfaced which attracted the attention of the force authorities.

Africa Investigative Magazine gathered that the Edo chapter of the PCRC attended a function wearing black uniforms similar to that of the Nigeria Police Force, while the suspended chairperson was seen wearing police uniform.
Her action however, goes against the provisions of section 214(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and section 101 of the Police Act, 2020.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, ordered her indefinite suspension, saying that it was a dent on Police image.
IGP who blew hot over the indiscreet disposition of Mrs. Odemwinge vowed to make unlawful users of police uniform face the full weight of law.

The Police Boss has also directed the force disciplinary units particularly the Force Provost Marshal, the IGP X-Squad and Monitoring Unit to clampdown on persons who engage in the illegal sales of police uniforms, kits and accoutrements, outside of police approved stores and the office of the Quartermaster.
