DELTA YOUTHS SHUN PROTESTS, DEMAND ARREST OF THOSE THREATENING PEACE
Youths under the coalition “Delta Youths Alliance “have disassociated themselves from any public demonstration being planned in the state to protest perceived economic hardship in the federation.
The Youths drawn from Delta Central, Delta South and Delta North in a statement in Asaba, said there was no basis for any protest with social harmony pervading all quarters in the state.
According to Comrade Tega Umokoro who spoke on behalf of Delta Central Youths, Elozino Okoro, Delta South and Morrison Ossy Okolie, Delta North, the proposed protest is mischievous and unacceptable.
While noting that they were not against lawful demonstrations,Delta Youths Alliance stated that the proposed protest was sinister in agenda as it was politically motivated by opposition figures, desperate to exploit the people to feed their personal interests.
The youths demanded the arrest of any one found masterminding such illegal demonstration and advised all Delta youths to stay off the streets from August 1st,2024 in order not to fall prey to criminal elements masquerading as protesters against bad governance.
The group “urged youth presidents across Delta communities,National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU),Youth NGOs and allied youth organizations in the state to be vigilant and sensitize their members against participating in any demonstration.”
The Delta Youths Alliance “expressed loyalty and support to the state government under the administration of Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for initiating diverse programmes and policies dedicated to uplifting the living standards of the people.”
Highlighting the government’s initiatives such as “prompt payment of bursary for tertiary school students, grant to over 5,000 youthful artisans and entrepreneurs, D-CARES programme which witnessed the increase of direct beneficiaries from 36,353 to 110,841 persons among other interventions” the youths noted that “what Delta needed at this time was celebration not irresponsible protest”
